PUGET SOUND CATERING NETWORK JOINS FORCES TO HELP FEED SEATTLE’S HUNGRY

16 PUGET SOUND CATERERS WILL PARTICIPATE IN A “CATERROUND FOOD DRIVE” THIS AUGUST

(Seattle, WA) During the month of August, 16 regional caterers will help give back to their neighborhood food banks of choice via the collection of non-perishable items for #Cater4Cans.  Food will be donated by staff members, their vendors, and neighbors, who can drop off contributions to the participating businesses.  Each Friday, the caterers will record the number of items they’ve collected along with the respective weight. Final weigh-in will be Thursday, August 31.  Shortly thereafter, distribution will be made to food banks across the city.

The collection idea was hatched last summer, when catering company, DSquared, hosted an internal employee food drive and were able to collect about 500 items of food that was donated to Seattle’s YouthCare.  The contribution provided a big win for both DSquared’s 150 employees and the organization.

In 2017, company owners, David Haggerty, Meg Haggerty, and David Meckstroth, decided to engage the entire Puget Sound catering community to see if they could make an even bigger impact.  They reached out to their colleagues, via their industry group called CaterRound, and within a few days, 15 caterers jumped at the chance to join them.  The catering companies are located across the region: from Georgetown to the south and north to Edmonds, Kirkland and Redmond on the Eastside, and even Puyallup. Nancy Donier, of Kaspars Catering and Special Events in Magnolia is an enthusiastic participant: “Giving back always sounds good to us and to do it with our peers…so much better.”  Shelby Sewell of Foodz Catering in the SODO neighborhood says: “Our company is excited to participate. Cater4Cans will be great for team building while also helping our immediate community.”

“We really don’t know what to expect in terms of how much food we can collect in August,” says David Haggerty. “But we do know that giving is contagious and that the employees from all of these companies are really excited to take part in this friendly competition and most worthwhile endeavor. We hope that residents in these neighborhoods will help pitch in and drop off a can, or 4, to boost the impact that we can make.”

PARTICIPATING CATERERS AND FOOD BANKS: Please drop off non-perishables to these local businesses and they will deliver to the corresponding food banks!
